Virat Kohli Named Indian Cricketer Of The Year
Indian Test captain Virat Kohli has made news for a good reason as he was named player of the year award.
He won the coveted Polly Umrigar Trophy in a star studded BCCI award ceremony.
The award has been felicitated on him as he delivered some spectacular performance under his leadership after taking over as captain post in the middle of the tour of Australia after Mahendra Singh Dhoni's sudden retirement.
The Delhi batsman has the credit of scoring 640 runs in 15 Test innings that he played in 2015 at an average of 42.67.
In ODI , the 27-year-old batsman played 20 matches this year and managed to score 623 runs at an average of 36.65.
Under Kohli, the Indian team tasted historic win after 22 year on Sri Lankan soil .
India won two Test series against Sri Lanka and South Africa under his captaincy.
The Delhi batsman was the most popular sportsperson for Indian sports fanatics ,according to a Goonj India Index 2015 report.
Mithali Raj bagged the top women's award and she became the first Indian woman and second overall to complete 5,000 runs in ODI format this year.
Mithali has been presented with the M A Chidambaram Trophy for the best women's cricketer.
Former wicketkeeper Syed Kirmani has been presented the Col. CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award.
