19 districts likely for Telangana state

Hyderabad, July 18: The Revenue department has began an exercise for the creation of new districts in the state. The government recently directed the officials to submit a report on how many new districts could be created in the State on the basis of population.

KCR's statement during the launch of “Telanganaku Haritha Haaram” programme that Siddipet could be carved into a new district indicates the keenness of the government.

The government will initially create nine more districts in addition to existing ten taking the total numbers of districts in the state to 19.

KCR announced that state will have 24 districts but this proposal was put on hold as there were speculations on reorganization of MP and MLA seats. But Election Commission recently clarified that reorganization will not be done in the near future.

As per an estimate, 18 new districts can be created in the state going by the current population of 3.5 crore.
