The Apex Court allows pictures of CM, governor in government advertisements
The Supreme Court has passed out a new verdict on ads meant particularly on governor, chief minister and ministers of departments concerned.
The apex court has modified its earlier verdict after reviewing the submission by centre and the states of Assam, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Karnataka.
In the submission of petition, the centre contended that it was contrary to the federal structure of the country and sought a review in this line.
In the submission, it was also stated that the court should refrain from interfering in such policy matters.
The Supreme Court, which allowed earlier the publications of photos of the Prime Minister, President and the Chief Justice of India only , has allowed also the publication of the photos of governor, chief minister and the ministers of the department concerned in government advertisements.
The decision has come to light as the apex court bench headed by Justice Ranjan Gogoi gave its verdict.
It is to be mentioned here that the Apex Court in its 2015 order stated the reasons that publishing photographs of politicians in the government's advertisements could could lead to the development of a personality cult and it will hinder the functioning of Democracy.
