 Gollapudi Srinivas Award goes to Jayaprakash

Tamil Nadu's Jayaprakash won the Gollapudi Srinivas National Award-2015 for debutant director for his film Lens .

The award was instituted by actor, writer Gollapudi Maruti Rao in memory of his son Srinivas, who died in 1992 while shooting his first film Premapustakam in Visakhapatnam.

There were 33 entries in several languages, including Hindi, Malayalam, English, Assamese, Bengali, Tamil, and Kannada.

The award is given every year to a debutant director.

The award comprises Rs.1.5 lakh in cash and a memento and it will be presented on August 12.

The said day has been chosen, as on that day Srinivas died in an accident.

Madras Music Academy venue is going to witness the award ceremony function in the presence of celluloid luminaries.

So far the awards were given to the following persons-

Leslie Carvalho ( The Outhouse ) was offered first award in 1997.

Other winners, who were presented the award included Syama Prasad (Malayalam, Agnisakshi ), Maju Bora (Assamese, Baibhab ), Ram Madhvani (English, Let’s Talk ) , Mohana Krishna (Telugu, Grahanam ), and Aamir Khan ( Taare Zameen Par )
