World Twenty20: Australia beat Pakistan

Australia has eliminated Pakistan from World Twenty20 pool game as Steve Smith proved with his batting and he led Australia to a 21-run win over Pakistan.

This win has transformed their final  against India into a quarter-final.

Pakistan made a valiant effort to cross the 192 run target set by Australia at Mahauli on Friday and went down fighting. Pakistan in the event scored 172/8.

With 30 runs to score off the last six balls, Pakistan scored 172 runs only.

Australia winning may have put paid to the hopes of not only Pakistan but India as well because of its better net run rate.

India will be playing the last league match with Australia at Mahauli on Sunday. But that maybe a routine exercise rather than serious play owing to the better net run rate of Australia.

The Aussies can afford to lose on Sunday and still be in the reckoning provided they maintain the run rate. India has no such luxury.

India will have to do a great deal more to get a semi-final berth, not only beating Australia but also beating it by a big margin.

India can only hope for a miracle like the one with Bangladesh to overcome Australia and get a semi-final berth.
