Z security status to Smriti Irani 

Union Minister for Human Resources Development Smriti Irani  is likely to be provided  Z category security by the Central government. This follows students demonstrating at her residence on an everyday basis ever since the Rohith Vemula suicide in Hyderabad Central university.

University education comes under the HRD Ministry.

It was the reference of the students activities in Hyderabad Central University back to the university authorities that led to the suicide by Rohith, the students alleged.

Rohith was suspended by the university authorities for beating up an Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad leader who objected to five students eulogising a documentary of terrorist Yakub Memon. Rohith was one of the five students.

Apart from Smriti Irani, another Central minister Bandaru Dattatreya was also on the radar of the students because it was he who had posted repeated letters to the HRD Ministry on the HCU happenings. The couret is looking into the HCU affairs.

Smriti Irani has so far enjoyed Y category security status.

 It is to be mentioned here that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and Ministers of State Kiren Rijiju and Jitendra Singh,  RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat , National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and BJP president Amit Shah have been enjoying Z category security.
