Smart Cities : First 20 announced, Bhubaneswar tops the list
The names of first 20 cities to be developed as Smart Cities in India have been announced by the centre.
Union Urban development minister M Venkaiah Naidu has announced the first list of 20 cities, which are to be developed as Smart Cities.
Bhubaneswar topped the list followed by Pune and Jaipur.
The other cities are Surat, Kochi, Ahmedabad, Jabalpur, Visakhapatnam, Solapur, Davanagere, Indore, New Delhi, Coimbatore, Kakinada, Belagavi, Udaipur, Guwahati, Chennai, Ludhiana and Bhopal.
It has been reported that a total investment of Rs 50,802 cr has been proposed in the selected smart cities and towns during the five year period.
It is to be mentioned here that there were 97 cities in the Smart City Challenge Competition.
Smart cities means proper carryout related with basic infrastructure through assured water and power supply, efficient use of sanitation and solid waste management, stressing more emphasis on efficiency of urban mobility and public transport, IT connectivity, e-governance and citizen participation.
