Railway modifies online ticketing rules to prevent black marketing

A new rule for booking of online tickets through the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) website has been announced by Railway ministry.

The ministry on Thursday has reduced/restricted the number of online bookings (IRCTC)  of reservation from existing 10 to 6.

The said step has been taken to prevent misuse of railway tickets by touts.

The ministry observed that only 90 per cent of users are booking up to six tickets in a given month, where as 10 per cent are booking more than 6 times.

The ministry observed and suspected that some 10 per cent users have been actively engaged in touting activities.

To check such criminal and touting activities and to facilitate genuine users, the railway ministry has come out with new rules.

It also said that an individual can book  two tickets using his or her user-id in a day for advance reservation booking from 8 AM to 10 AM.

As per the rule, Individuals are allowed to book only two tickets per user-id in a day for Tatkal booking from 10 am to 12 noon.

The other rules which should be followed are as follows -

1- Quick Book option remains disabled from 8 am to 12 noon.

2-Ticketing agents can not book tickets from 8 am to 8.30 am for general bookings, from 10 am to 10.30 am and 11 am to 11.30 am for Tatkal booking in AC and non-AC classes, respectively.

3-From 8 am to 12 noon, the booking can not be made through  e-wallet and cash cards.

4-Only one booking in one user login session is allowed except for return/onward journey between 8 am to 12 noon.

The said rule is going to be implemented from February  15, 2016.
