Jallikattu put on hold by Supreme Court ahead of Pongal
The Supreme Court on Tuesday has stayed Central Government's report which stated that 'Jallikattu', Bull-Fighting sport of Tamil Nadu, should be continued with some restrictions that stop cruelty to the animals.
An apex court bench headed by Justice Dipak Mishra and NV Ramana has read out the verdict.
With this verdict, it has saddened Jallikattu game lovers in the Tamil Nadu and boarder area of Chittoor district in AP.
It is to be mentioned here that the Animal Welfare Board, People for Ethical Treatment of Aminals, or PETA, and 11 other organisations have challenged the Centre's notification in the Supreme Court citing cruelty to the animals.
It is also to be mentioned that the controversial bull running sport Jallikattu in Tamil Nadu is championed by politicians including Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa.
