Report on AP Special Status soon

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is shortly going to make an announcement on the Special Status for Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu stated here on Wednesday night.

NITI Ayog had prepared a report on the Special Status and submitted it to the government. The Prime Minister was just about making an announcement on the promise made in the AP State Reorganisation Bill, he added.

It is notable that NITI Ayog chief Arvind Pangariya was in Vijayawada on Wednesday when he made flattering references to Andhra Pradesh and Chandrababu Naidu.

While the Special Status had been the main demand of the opposition in the State, Chandrababu decried the rumour mill that was trying to disparage his government's efforts to achieve various means for the State. For example, Vijayawada was being projected as crime city and Amaravati as steeped in environmental hurdles. He urged the people not to believe in the misguided campaign.

The opposition in particular was working in a way such that the State should not be benefited by the interlinking of the rivers such as Polavaram and Pattiseema, and that Amaravati capital project should not be completed, he said.

The campaign was to hit at the roots of the nascent State even as it was striving for finding its moorings.
