Centre rules out special status to any state
Delhi, July 31: The Union government today ruled out granting special status to any state in the country.
Replying to a query in Lok Sabha, Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh said that the government is not considering any proposal to accord special status to any state as of now.
He clarified that there were proposals to sanction special packages to some states.
The Minister said that there were no specific guidelines for granting special status. He said that Centre would examine the proposal to grant special packages to the states depending on the situation.
The Union Minister's statement has put AP TDP and BJP leaders in a piquant situation.
