Police verification for passport to go online
Hyderabad, July 26: From November this year onwards the police verification for the issuance of passports will go online. Bengaluru of Karnataka is the first city to have the online police verification process.
Earlier the process was that police personnel will verify the details of the applicant by a personal visit to the house. This process used to take at least one month time. But now with the online verification the time period will cut down to one week.
The Central Home Ministry is working on a project by which SP or DCP of the areas concerned would be given access to the databases of National Population Register (NPR), Aadhaar card and Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System.
With this they would be able to verify the identity, address and criminal record, if any, of the applicant through online.
