Ind vs Pak, Champions Trophy: ICC admits fixing draws to put India and Pak in same group
The Internatioal Cricket Council, which knows very well about the rivalry between India and Pakistan has admitted about its plan of action.
In the interests of the popularity of the game, ICC had tweaked the draws in the 2017 Champions Trophy to put India and Pakistan together in the same group.
As per the rules, the draws would have put the two teams in separate groups, but the ICC tweaked the draws to ensure the Sub-Continental rivals were in the same group.
An India-Pakistan cricket match is expected to be watched by 100 crore people.
On June 4, 2017, the two teams would now be meeting in the group fixtures at Edgbaston.
Dave Richardson, ICC chief executive, argued, 'It is hugely important from ICC point of view'.
While giving justification to his statement, he continued saying , 'It's massive around the world and the fans have come to expect it as well'.
'It's fantastic for the tournament because it gives it a massive kick.'
However, Richardson denied that the tweaking impacted the integrity of any tournament.
