New York observes April 14 as Bindeshwar Pathak Day

Indian social activist and 'Sulabh International' founder Bindeshwar Pathak Day, aged 73 honoured.

New York had declared April 14 this year as Bindeshwar Pathak Day, after the founder of Sulabh International.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio honoured Pathak for his outstanding wrok to improve health and hygiene.

He was honoured for actively associated with campaigning for social reforms and developing innovative and environmentally-sound sanitation technologies.

Mayor Bill de Blasio  has said that Pathak helped break the cycle of poverty and disenfranchisement throughout India.

`Pathak has been example of someone who saw a great injustice, saw something that to many people was impractical and permanent,Mayor Bill de Blasio added .

The Mayor speaking at a function organised for the occasion, where Pathak, 73, was present.

It is to be mentioned here that Pathak received the New York Global Leaders Dialogue Humanitarian Award earlier this week in New York.
