Soon marriages, functions to be banned on Indrakeeladri, Durga temple

The AP state endowment ministry took a key decision surprising many.

Narasimha Rao, Executive officer of the famous Kanakadurga temple in Vijayawada, has called for a ban on weddings and functions in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple.

Narsimha Rao said that soon formal orders will be issued banning marriages and functions atop Indrakeeladri, the abode of the deity.

He opined that there is paucity of space in the sanctum of Kanakadurga temple for the devotees.

Hence they could be performed in any part of the temple other than the sanctum.

Executive officer of the famous Kanakadurga temple questioned the need for performing the wedddings in the sanctum, saying where is the need for marriages before the idol.

Are marriages performed before Venkateshwara at Tirumala?, he added.

The temple trust has been conducting marriages for poor couples, for years now, right in front of the entrance of the temple.

But now the venue has changed to the second floor where the functions could be held, he said.

It is to be mentioned here that the marriages are being performed before the Kanakadurga idol since 1996.
