Alam Ara – India's first sound film completes 85 years

'Alam Ara' movie starrer Master Vithal, Zubeida, Prithviraj Kapoor and the legendary producer, director and actor from the south L. V. Prasad, has completed 85 years.

The film that depicted the story of an ageing king’s two queens and the rivalry between the two queens, is the adaptation of a Parsi theatre play that was written by Joseph David.

The ageing king of Kamarpur, and his two queens, Navbahar and Dilbahar, and their rivalry to take over the reign in their hands has been highlighted in the movie.

The film that ran for 124 minutes was produced under the banner of 'Imperial Movietone'.

It is India's first talkie film  that was first screened at the Majestic Cinema in Bombay (now Mumbai).

The film was mostly shot in the night to avoid capturing the noises of the day.
