Kapu leader ends indefinite hunger strike for a cause

Former minister and Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham finally broke his fast-unto-death on Monday afternoon after four days of fasting along with his wife, Padmavathy, at their Kirlampudi residence in East
Godavari district.

Government representatives Kimidi Kala Venkatrao, Minister Kinjarao Achchennaidu had persuaded Padmanabham to break his indefinite fast by putting three government porposals before him.

As Padmanabham agreed to the proposals, Kala Venkatrao immediately called for lime juice and Padmnabham consumed it, signalling the break of fasting.

The first proposal is to advance the submission of the report by Justice Manjunatha Commission going into the issue of creation of reservations for the Kapus without disturbing the Backward Classes quotas.

Second is to provide for a member to be nominated by Padmanabham to be included in the Justice Manjunatha Commission. Third is to disburse loans among the Kapus by the Backward Classes Corporation.

The TDP government representatives included Thota Trimurthulu and Boddu Bhaskararao.

The break of fast was highlighted by a lot of bonhomie between the government representatives and Padmanabham by embraces and smiling and so on.

Earlier of the day, a tense situation has developed at Kirlampudi, as Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham continues his fast on the 4th day today and police have stopped people from meeting him.

VIPs like Dasari Naryana Rao and others have been detained at their lodges in Rajahmundry, while they came to meet the fasting leader.

Congress unit president Raghuveera Reddy and Chiranjeevi were detained at Rajamahendravaram airport, while they were on their way to Kirlampudi, to express their support to fasting Kapu leader Mudragada.

Congress activists entered in to a wordy duel with the police, outside the airport, to release their leaders.

But the latter were firm. With this, the activists squatted at the entrance in protest.
