Vijayawada-Kharagpur to witness a new freight line

 The Railway Budget 2016 was pegged at 1.21 lakh crore outlay on Thursday in the proposals presentred by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu as against the accurate prediction of 1.25 lakh crore.

A new freight line between Kharagpur and Vijayawada is the only new addition for the Telugu States under the new budget proposals presented so far.

The railways have maintained the laying of new railway lines of 7 km each day during the past year.

With the expenditure of each rupee, the benefit of Rs 5 was sought to be achieved.

In 2017, 2000 km line would get the benefit of electrification.

Last year, 139 items were mentioned in the budget, which were being pursued even now.

Connectivity would be extended to 7517 km along the coast.

Delhi- Chennai, Kharagpur-Mumbai and Kharagpur-Vijayawada freight lines would be opened nex year.

The LIC of India would invest Rs 1.05 lakh crore in the railways next year.

In all, 9000 jobs would be created in 2017-18 by the railways.

Mizoram-Manipur railway line would be converted to broad guage.

In all the railway divisions, paper was being done away with after the introduction of computers.

 Two loco factories would be set up under the Make-in-India policy in 2016-17.

MOUs for the construction of 5,300 km of railway line under 44 projects is underway.
