Political heat spreads on Kapu Reservation In AP

Kapu quota protests issue in Andhra Pradesh has turned a hot topic.

Caught between the devil and the deep sea over the reservation for the Kapus among the Backward Classes, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu on Monday called for an urgent meeting of TDP's Kapu leaders, including Ministers in his Cabinet, this afternoon so a decision can be quickly taken on the issue.

Anticipating further trouble if the Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham were to go on a fast-unto-death, the Chief Minister would like to take a considered decision on the issue.

If the Backward Class reservation were conceded for the Kapus, which had been figuring since the formation of the combined Andhra Pradesh one way or the other, the Backward Classes themselves might resort to agitation.

With these views at the back of the mind, the TDP supremo called for the Kapu leaders meeting. Those who have been urgently summoned include Ministers Narayana, Ganta Srinivas and Pydikondala Narayan Rao. The invitees include Kapu MLAs and MLCs.

The leaders generally feel that if the Kapu agitation were to continue, it might be uncontrallable.

With all these views doing the rounds in the ruling party, the TDP supremo is expected to take the Kapu leaders' views before taking a course of action.
