When Josh Hazlewood beat Shoaib Akhtar to become world's fastest bowler

The Boxing Day Test at the SCG between Australia and the West Indies was won by the home team comfortably. What is significant is the fastest ball bowled in the Test by Australian pacer Josh Hazelwood. He broke the fastest ball record registered by Pakistan's Shoib Akhtar. Hazelwood's ball bowled to opener Rajendra Chandrika of the West Indies clocked 164.2 kmph as against Shoib Akhtar's 161.3 kmph during his time.

Both had crossed the 100-mile per hour barrier with their fastest balls. Hazelwood's record is marked at 102 miles per hour.

Not oly the West Indian opener was surprised by the fastest ball, even the Chnanel 9 speedometer is also being rechecked to fix the record.

When the West Indian speed quartet of Andy Roberts, Michael Holding, Joel Garner and Colin Croft were at their best a few decades ago, they were the kings in the cricketing world. Now that Josh Hazelwood-led Australians are bowling at their fastest, they are sure to be the No.1 in Test cricket.
