Hyderabad, August 1: Andhra Pradesh government send proposals to the Central Urban Development Ministry requesting the development of Visakhapatnam, Kakinada and Tirupati cities as smart cities.

As part of the smart cities mission, the Centre has decided to develop 20 cities in the first phase. It requested the State governments to submit proposals on or before July 31.
Smart cities selection will be done in three phases. The State governments will make proposals according to the number of smart cities allotted to them in the first phase.
In the second phase, the Centre will check the proposals of the states and compare with others. Announcement of final list and funds allotment will be done in the third phase.
Meanwhile, Telangana State proposed Greater Hyderabad, Greater Warangal and Karimnagar municipal corporations under smart cities against the allotment of two smart cities.
