CLT20 discontinued with immediate effect

The Governing Council of the Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20)  comprising representatives of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Cricket South Africa (CSA) and Cricket Australia (CA) have confirmed on Wednesday that that the competition will be discontinued with immediate effect.

With this decision, the 2015 edition of CLT20, originally scheduled for September and October, will not move ahead as it had planned earlier.

IPL franchises Chennai Super Kings (2010 and 2014) and Mumbai Indians (2011 and 2013) emerged as the most successful teams with two wins each won in CLT20's six-year history.

The announcement to dismis CLT20 comes a day after IPL franchises Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) were suspended in connection with the IPL betting and spot-fixing legislation.

The Supreme Court committee headed by RM Lodha has suspended two time IPL winners Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals from the Indian Premier League for two years.

It also proposed a ban on Gurunath Meiyappan and Raj Kundra for life from any cricketing activity. They have been suspended from IPL for betting scandal that hit the T20 tournament in 2013
